Norway rally joy for IRC champion Mikkelsen!!

ŠKODA UK Motorsport driver Andreas Mikkelsen’s 2012 rally season has begun in fine style after he scored victory on the opening round of the Norwegian Rally Championship, the snowy Mountain Rally in Norway.Co-driven by Ola Fløene, ŠKODA UK’s IRC-winning driver won the Gol-based event (located in the Hallingdal region of Norway, 118 miles/190kms north-west of the capital city of Oslo) in a privately-entered IRC title-winning ŠKODA Fabia S2000 (now owned by his manager, Erik Vieby). Securing his first victory of the year, the Norwegian finished 7.2 seconds ahead of Mads Østberg/Jonas Andersson (Ford Fiesta S2000).

Andreas: “It’s very nice to start the new season off with a rally win, and I am very pleased. It’s a long time since I’ve driven on snow and ice and having been away for two years it was great to rally in Norway again. We had to drive fast to beat Mads and even though we were here to test, competing against such a good driver meant we really had to focus on our driving – so it was a very good test situation for us.”

Andreas and Ola will next contest Rally Finnskog (4 February) as a final test in preparation for Rally Sweden (9–12 February).

After dominating the whole round of the Cyprus Rally, the norway 22 years old Andreas Mikkelsen together with Ola Fløene, become the new IRC champions!!!

The Skoda UK driver has won also the last special stage with an advantage of 4”1 second on the 2010 IRC champion Juho Hanninen and with one minute on the czech driver Jan Kopecky.

Due to this win and to the point doubling of the Cyprus Rally, Andreas was able to win against the official Skoda with 1 and ½ points in the championship and become the youngest IRC champion ever.

Our sincerest congratulations to Andreas, Ola and the whole Skoda UK team for the great season and the fantastic IRC title!!!

IRC Sanremo…

After 13 hard fought special stages Thierry Neuville emerged as the winner of the 53rd Rallye Sanremo.

The Belgian on board of the Peugeot 207 Super 2000 of the Team Kronos has beaten in the sprint Andreas Mikkelsen with his Skoda Fabio Super 2000. The Norwegian of Skoda UK Team has been the leader of much of the reace but finally at PS 12 Passo Teglia, Neuville got the lead by winning the last stage of PS13 Colle d’Oggia.

A truly exciting and challenging Rallye dividing our drives only 1.5 sec.

Congratulations to Team Kronos and Team Skoda and of course to our SUPERFAST young drivers!!

Andreas and Ola ended up 2nd in the overall standing after a very good fight for the win against last years IRC-champion Juha Hanninen.

The boys won 6 stages this weekend and are very happy with the result. “I am getting closer and closer to a win” Andreas said to the rallyradio after the last stage. “We have proved that we are one of the fastest cars in the championship and i am looking forward to the next rally”
