WTCC Valencia,
in the first race, it is still him — Yvan Muller and Chevrolet showing everyone who’s the leader, and with much less difficulty with respect to what he did in Monza.
Despite a small hesitation on the departure, at the first curve Muller took advantage of the inside trajectory to take over the pole position on Saturday, what Yvan called “the pole obtained with a perfect lap,” to take the lead right off in the group and quickly leave a void behind him, with more and more lead on Gabriele Tarquini’s Seat lap after lap, and taking solitary flight toward success.
Second race, 2, between the two really fast BMWs it was Alain Menù’s Cruze to put on a show , that however differently from his teammate Muller in the first race, had to sweat it out to the last meter.
The Swiss pilot, who was in the first row, was the one who started out ahead among those of Chevrolet and he was quite capable of taking advantage of this lead. When the light turned off, that also gave us the thrill of Aleksei Dudukalo’s Seat stopped at the starting line-up, it was the poleman Stefano d’Aste who took control of the operations , followed by Franz Engstler, Menù and Tom Coronel.
During the first lap, Menù immediately found the way to pass, to the German’s disadvantage, and he threw himself into a chase behind a very fast d’Aste. The Italian pilot had the merit of holding out on the veteran’s attacks up to the seventh lap, but in the end, he had to bow before the power of the Cruze. .
Two laps later, however, another coup de scène when a vehicle lost oil on the track and the first three took a spin on this, helping Coronel to recover; he then found himself in the position to take up battle once again for the victory. And it was exactly in this last passage, helped also by the better use of the BMW’s tires, that he was able to launch an attack on Menù.
The Swiss pilot resisted with all his might, and in the end, went on to take the victory in front of the Dutch driver.
The third place on the podium was Italian, with a very capable and very fast pilot, Stefano D’Aste d’Aste, who was able to defend to the finish his absolute third place and the victory among the Independents from the attacks of Norbert Michelisz and Engstler, celebrating in great style, with a “double breasted” suit approved by FA 8856-2000!!!
