The 50th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona has been completed and it lived up to the billing of the most anticipated road race in history.

In the end, Michael Shank Racing was victorious in the twice around the clock classic, narrowly edging out Starworks Motorsports.

The battle, unbelievably came down to the last lap in both the DP and GT classes, where Magnus Racing earned a spectacular victory over rival Porsche team TRG.

In all OMP teams earned a 2nd in DP, 1st, and 2nd in GT, qualified first in DP, won pole and swept the podium in Continental GS series and won the ST race with I-Moto Racing’s Mazdaspeed 3.

Congratulations to all of the team that persevered and finished in Daytona. OMP looks forward to a very successful 2012.

The first big race of 2012 is among us, and OMP will be well represented in the 50th running of the 24 Hours of Daytona.

Hoping to take home the overall victory in the Daytona Prototype class will be Wayne Taylor Racing, Starworks, Action Express, Alegra Motorsports, all while wearing OMP! GT class heroes include, Dempsey Racing, Risi Competizione, AIM Autosport/FXDD Motorsports, Alex Job Racing, Magnus Racing along with their CTF entry, Yellow Dragon Racing, Burtin Racing, Flying Lizard Motorsports, APR Motorsport, Autohaus Motorsports, Stevenson Motorsports and leading the way TRG with a whopping 5 teams.

An incredible lineup of drivers will be representing OMP in both classes. In DP, will be Tony Kanaan, Ryan Hunter-Reay, Lucas Luhr, Allan McNish, Ryan Dalziel, Max Angelelli, Ricky Taylor, David Donohue, Darren Law and a host of other racing’s greatest drivers. OMP RACING –italian company from Ronco Scrivia-Genova, leader in design and production of safety equimpent parts for racing cars- and Dallara Automobili –historical italian racing car manufacturer- have recently undersigned a partnership agreement for the exclusive supplying of safety equipment for the F312, which is the new monoposto realized by the factory of Varano di Melegari for the Formula 3 and presented in world preview at the Birmingham Autosport International, the most important international show for racing.

The OMP safety kit on the new monoposto is made of the new extinguisher system, the racing harnesses derived directly from the Formula 1 and the steering wheel, all products, which are entirely studied, designed and realized inside the facility of Ronco Scrivia.

Specifically on the new F312 debuts the new and ultralight OMP extinguisher system CEFAL 3, made by OMP’s Research and Development department.

OMP’s safety equipment will be mounted on the new F312 designed and realized by the specialists of Dallara.

The set of products will be used during the F3 Euro Series 2012 and in the major nationals championships of the category like the British Formula 3 Championship, the European F3 Open Championship and the All Japan Fopmrula 3 Championship.

This important result is given after years of hard work done by OMP’s technicians in the development, prototyping, testing and shows the high level of know how and the strong skills developed by OMP in the designing and producing of extinguisher systems.

ŠKODA UK Motorsport driver Andreas Mikkelsen’s 2012 rally season has begun in fine style after he scored victory on the opening round of the Norwegian Rally Championship, the snowy Mountain Rally in Norway.Co-driven by Ola Fløene, ŠKODA UK’s IRC-winning driver won the Gol-based event (located in the Hallingdal region of Norway, 118 miles/190kms north-west of the capital city of Oslo) in a privately-entered IRC title-winning ŠKODA Fabia S2000 (now owned by his manager, Erik Vieby). Securing his first victory of the year, the Norwegian finished 7.2 seconds ahead of Mads Østberg/Jonas Andersson (Ford Fiesta S2000).

Andreas: “It’s very nice to start the new season off with a rally win, and I am very pleased. It’s a long time since I’ve driven on snow and ice and having been away for two years it was great to rally in Norway again. We had to drive fast to beat Mads and even though we were here to test, competing against such a good driver meant we really had to focus on our driving – so it was a very good test situation for us.”

Andreas and Ola will next contest Rally Finnskog (4 February) as a final test in preparation for Rally Sweden (9–12 February).

The Roar Before The Rolex 24, the three-day test session for the historic 50th Anniversary of the Rolex 24 At Daytona on Jan. 28-29, concluded on Sunday afternoon at Daytona International Speedway.

Between GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, 112 cars tackled the twists and turns of Daytona’s road course preparing for the Rolex 24 At Daytona Weekend.

In the Rolex Sports Car Series, the new Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototypes got off to a solid start by posting the fastest speed during the three-day test. The No. 10 SunTrust Racing Chevrolet Corvette posted the fastest speed of the test with driver Max Angelelli – 126.713 mph – on Sunday. Overall, the Chevrolet Corvettes took the top five spots in the cumulative speed charts. The No. 63 Risi Competizione Ferrari 458 was fastest among the GT class entries with a speed of 117.321 mph and driver Toni Vilander on Saturday.

The Rolex Sports Car Series and the Continental Tire teams will next return to Daytona International Speedway to celebrate the golden anniversary for America’s most prestigious sports car event on Jan. 26-29.

And while the every driver and team wants the distinction of winning the 50th Anniversary of the Rolex 24, the preparation for the grueling and demanding race doesn’t change.

The Swiss racing team around teams’ principle Beat Maurer has big targets: with minimum 2 Chevrolet Aveo’s the team will fight for victories in the German ADAC Procar Series in Division 2.

The plan is to race the cars as well in the European Touring Car Cup (FIA ETCC) in the 1600 class.

The cars will be driven from the Russians Alexander Frolov and Vadim Meshecheriakov.

In less than 70 days the season starts in Monza (IT) in the frame of the World Touring Car Championship!

“We are in process to build the 1600 Aveo’s at the moment; the whole team is looking forward to the coming season. We are very happy to work with strong partners like KW Suspension and OMP”, team manager Beat Maurer told. Maurer motorsport will take part at all the 7 events of ADAC Procar as also at all 4 events of the FIA ETCC, (3 races are in the frame of the World Touring Car Championship FIA WTCC) in 2012.

There is the possibility for joining the team with a third Division 2 car and/ or in a Chevrolet Cruze/ Lacetti for Division 1.
